Full Professor and senior researcher, and former President of Elhuyar
Researcher José María Rodríguez Ibabe has been named President of Ceit-IK4’s Governing Board, replacing Carlos Bastero de Eleizalde. Rodríguez Ibabe (Tecnun, ’80) is a Full Professor of Metallurgy and a researcher at Ceit.
He received his doctorate in 1984, and that same year he joined the Materials Department at Ceit, where he is currently senior researcher in the Thermomechanic Processes Group. He has taught Metallurgy at Tecnun, the School of Engineering, since 1986. He has also held the positions of Director of the Materials Department at Tecnun, Co-director of the Thermomechanical Treatments Area at Ceit, and Deputy Head of Research at Tecnun.
The new President of Ceit-IK4 is author of over a dozen books and has over 220 publications in international journals and conference proceedings. He has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and other forums in the materials sector. He has collaborated on 75 applied research projects and he has directed 19 doctoral theses.
Dr. Rodríguez Ibabe holds six international awards: the Meritorious Award from the Iron and Steel Society (US, 2000), the Vanadium Award for the most outstanding paper (2000) and the Charles Hatchett Award for the best published paper (2003) from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (UK) and the Gilbert R. Speich Award from the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (US; 2012, 2013 and 2016).
The new Ceit-IK4 President was formerly president of Elhuyar, an association created in 1972 with the goal of uniting science and the Basque language, and he remains in the Foundation as a founding member.
